About Lid & Visor
Lid & Visor is a small independent reference site about motorcycle helmets and riding gear. It is organized by topic, from choosing and fitting a helmet to intercoms, riding gear and care, and each page tries to answer one question fully, with the direct answer first.
What you will find here
- Fit notes: measuring your head, head shapes and what a good fit feels like.
- Plain explanations of the DOT, ECE 22.06 and Snell labels and the CE ratings on riding gear.
- Tools that turn your head measurement into a size range and decode the labels on a helmet.
- Narrow gear guides, each about one kind of helmet, intercom or piece of riding gear.
Where the numbers come from
Safety label facts come from the standards themselves: FMVSS 218 published by NHTSA, UN ECE Regulation 22.06, the Snell M2020 standard, and the EN standards for armor and riding gear. Size ranges are typical figures; each maker's own size chart and manual win where they differ from a general rule. We state what a label certifies and never claim that a helmet or a piece of gear prevents injury.
How gear is chosen
We do not run a test bench and we do not claim hands-on testing. Gear guides compare products by what their Amazon listings state. How we pick gear explains the method and its limits.
How the site is paid for
Links to Amazon are affiliate links. If you buy through one, the site may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That is the only income. Nobody pays to be included, and a product is never listed because of its commission. See the affiliate disclosure.
