Helmet size finder
Measure around your head just above the eyebrows and ears. Enter the largest reading and the finder shows the generic size range it falls in.
Short answer
Measure at the widest point, about an inch above the eyebrows. Generic ranges run in 2 cm steps: S 55 to 56 cm, M 57 to 58 cm, L 59 to 60 cm. Within half a centimeter of a boundary, try both sizes. Each brand's chart differs, and head shape matters as much as size.

- Brand charts differ. The same head can be an M in one brand and an L in another.
- Shape matters as much as size: long oval, intermediate oval or round oval.
- Right fit: snug on the cheeks, no pressure points after 20 to 30 minutes.
How to measure your head
Use a soft tailor's tape. Wrap it around your head about an inch above the eyebrows and just above the tops of the ears, where the head is widest at the back. Keep the tape level and snug but not tight. Measure two or three times and use the largest number.
- Widest point: about 1 inch (2.5 cm) above the eyebrows, just above the ears.
- Tape level all the way round, snug, not tight. Keep the largest of three readings.

Size is half the fit
Seen from above, heads are roughly long oval, intermediate oval or round oval. A helmet built for a different shape can press on the forehead or the sides even in the right size. Wear a new helmet indoors for 20 to 30 minutes: it should feel snug on the cheeks, with no hot spots, and should not roll forward or back with the strap done up. More in fit, sizing and safety ratings.
Long oval
Fewer models; some makers sell long oval lines, such as Arai's Signet-X.
Intermediate oval
The most common shape; most models from the big brands target it.
Round oval
Fewer models; check each maker's fit notes for rounder lines.
