Verdict
Buy the Cardo Packtalk Edge if you want 'Hey Cardo' voice control, the magnetic Air Mount and a confirmed waterproof unit. Buy the Sena 50S if you prefer a jog dial, Harman Kardon speakers and fast charging at a lower price, or if your group already rides Sena.
The Cardo Packtalk Edge and the Sena 50S are the two mesh intercoms riders compare most. Both connect groups of riders over mesh, pair with your phone for music and navigation, and clamp to almost any helmet. They differ in how you control them, how they mount and what each brand chooses to highlight. This page compares install, voice and button control, sound, charging, range and price using only listing facts, and says plainly where a listing leaves a spec out. New to mesh? Install and mounting
The Packtalk Edge's headline feature is the Air Mount. You bring the unit close to the magnetic cradle and it snaps on, which makes it quick to pull off for charging or to stop it walking away when you park. The cradle and speakers still go into the helmet the usual way; our Packtalk install guide walks through it.
The Sena 50S listing does not describe its mount, so check the product page for which clamp and adhesive options are in the box. Either unit works with most full face and modular helmets. For open face and half helmets, see intercoms for open face helmets.
Controls: voice vs jog dial
Cardo pushes voice. With Natural Voice you say 'Hey Cardo' and give a command, so you can change volume, take a call or start the intercom without taking a hand off the bar. That is useful in traffic and with thick winter gloves.
Sena's 50S, as its name in the listing says, uses a jog dial. A rotating dial is easy to find with a gloved thumb, and volume is a twist rather than a series of presses. The 50S also gives voice access to your phone's assistant with 'Hey Google' or 'Hey Siri'. If you prefer physical controls, the 50S suits you; if you would rather talk than touch, the Edge does.
Sound, range and battery
Sena lists speakers and a microphone with Sound by Harman Kardon on the 50S. The Packtalk Edge listing we have does not name its speakers. Cardo's newer Packtalk Neo lists 40mm JBL speakers, but that does not confirm what ships with the Edge, so check the box contents on the Edge product page.
Neither listing here gives a mesh range figure or a full battery life figure. The 50S lists fast charging: 20 minutes gives up to 2 hours of mesh or Bluetooth intercom. Real range in any mesh system depends on terrain, buildings and how many riders are relaying. If range is a priority, read both makers' spec sheets and our mesh troubleshooting and Packtalk problems pages.
Note.Set volume and routes before you ride. Adjusting an intercom while moving takes attention off the road.
Riding with other brands
Cardo and Sena each run their own mesh systems, so the easy path is for everyone in your group to use the same brand. Both units also do standard Bluetooth intercom, which is how mixed groups usually link up. If your riding friends already own Sena, the 50S keeps things simple; if they run Cardo, the Edge does. Our Sena vs Cardo brand comparison covers the wider lineups, and setup steps are in how to pair a Cardo Packtalk and how to set up the Sena 50S.
Which one should you buy

Frequently asked questions
Can a Cardo Packtalk Edge talk to a Sena 50S? They use different mesh systems. Mixed groups usually connect over standard Bluetooth intercom instead. Check each maker's current compatibility notes.
Is the Packtalk Edge waterproof? Yes, its listing says it is waterproof for rain, mud, dust and snow. The 50S listing does not state a waterproof rating.
Which has better sound? Sena lists Harman Kardon speakers on the 50S. The Edge listing does not name its speakers. Speaker placement in your helmet matters as much as the brand.
How fast does the Sena 50S charge? Its listing says 20 minutes of charging gives up to 2 hours of mesh or Bluetooth intercom.
